Gone in a Splash, Saved in a Dash

How Redux (Now Available at Wireless Zone®) Can Rescue Your Waterlogged Technology

Plunk. Whether at a sunny poolside or in privacy of a bathroom stall, the unmistakable sound of your smartphone hitting water is startling and upsetting. All your photos and videos, your text messages and contacts, your entire expensive and high-tech device gone in a slip and a splash.

Or is it? What if, in just one hour, your flooded device could be fully dried and restored to its pre-doused glory? With Redux, the technology lifeguard, your drowned devices can be rescued – no Baywatch or bag of rice needed.

Redux, a patented electronic drying service, is now available in all Verizon Authorized Wireless Zone® store locations. This advanced machine uses a combination of vacuum pressure and heat to safely, quickly, and effectively remove all liquid from electronic devices. Redux has an 84% success rate* and in most cases, devices can be revived in less than an hour. Gone are the days of drying waterlogged tech in rice grains for days on end with fingers crossed, wallowing in the likely chance you’ll need to buy a pricey new one. Don't risk losing your device and with it any data or media un-synced and vulnerable – with Redux, save time, save money, and save your submerged technology at Wireless Zone®.

*In Redux lab tests, where no devices were plugged in prior to the dry attempt, the success rate for a full recovery was 83.9%. During testing, Redux removed substantial amounts of liquid from devices that had been sitting in rice for a period of four days, busting the widely popular and ill-advised bag of rice drying myth.

How Does Redux Work?

[With Redux] a typical recovery takes less than one hour to complete....[the device] should maintain its existing life expectancy and operate as it did before getting wet.

It’s no secret water and electricity don’t mix. Yet commonly, in a panic to salvage a drowned device, the natural instinct is to turn the tech on to see if it’s still working or plug it in, thinking it will ‘dry’ on the charge. Continued electricity use while moisture is still present within can be detrimental, and often results in the device being irreparably damaged.

The best course of action is to turn off a waterlogged smartphone or electronic with dry hands and remove the battery (if possible), ensuring it will not be powered on again until every last molecule of liquid has evaporated. With Redux, a combination of heat, vacuum suction, and air pressure cycles to expedite the evaporation process and extract liquid trapped within. Typical recoveries take less than one hour to complete.

The science behind Redux:

  1. Redux lowers the amount of heat needed to vaporize liquid trapped inside a device by lowering the air pressure inside the chamber through a strong vacuum.
  2. Any liquid inside vaporizes at room temperature and is forced outside of the device by a gentle heat source.
  3. Redux cycles between vacuum and heat. During this process, moisture is removed from the chamber and the remaining amount is measured (humidity).
  4. Redux dries the chamber until no humidity is present, and a 10-minute charge is applied to the device to test it's recovery status.

A recovery is identified successful once confirmed the device can power on, take a charge, make/receive calls (if applicable), and has a fully functioning screen. A successfully recovered device should maintain its existing life expectancy and operate as it did before getting wet.

What Can Redux Dry?

The Redux 13” vacuum chamber is designed to extract all liquids – such coffee spills, soapy sink suds, and chemically treated pool water – from any electronically chargeable device small enough to fit into its cabinet.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Smartphones
  • Flip phones
  • Smartwatches
  • Activity trackers
  • Tablets/eReaders

Note: Other small electronics such as USB drives, key fobs, headphones, hearing aids, digital cameras, and portable gaming systems may be eligible for dry attempts as well – visit your local store for information on drying eligibility and details!

Many electronic devices are tightly sealed, which means a significant amount of moisture can remain in them even a week after being exposed to liquid. A successful Redux recovery can get your phone and other devices back up and running and ready to use within the same day.

What’s the First Thing I Should Do If My Device Gets Wet?

To increase the success rate of drying and reviving a device with Redux, customers are urged to follow these precautions:

Do:

  1. Dry your hands and tech with an absorbent (preferably microfiber) cloth
  2. Immediately power down the device
  3. Remove the battery (if possible)
  4. Visit your nearest Wireless Zone location as soon as possible to use the Redux drying machine

Don't:

  • Plug in or turn on the device for any reason
  • Place the device in a bag of rice - this is not an effective way to remove moisture from submerged technology and exposes it to dust that can get trapped within and cause further problems

How Much Does Redux Cost? Redux Members and Walk-ins Welcome

Standard Walk-in Recovery Prices and Savings:

Walk-in customers will only be charged a recovery fee if Redux is successful in drying and reviving their device, easing the risk factor for customers.
  • A dry attempt for any device only costs a standard walk-in fee of $10.
  • Successful recovery fee of a basic phone or data device (such as a smartwatch) costs $50
  • Successful smartphone or tablet recovery fee costs $90

Walk-in customers will only be charged a recovery fee if Redux is successful in drying and reviving their device, easing the risk factor for customers. As the average cost of purchasing a replacement smartphone is typically upwards of $650 (or a $200 deductible if the customer has insurance), a successful Redux recovery (generally costing $100 or less) can save customers hundreds of dollars as well as the headache and heartbreak of replacing the device in its entirety. Restoring a drowned device means preserving any media or memories stored within the tech, which to many is considered priceless.

Total Mobile Protection’s Hassle-Free Discount (Approximately 40-45% in Savings):

Customers of any carrier can walk-in and utilize the Redux drying machine at Wireless Zone®. As a Verizon exclusive retailer, Wireless Zone® offers additional advantages to Verizon customers including memberships and special discounts.

Customers who have opted in for Total Mobile Protection (TMP) for any device attached to their account number can enjoy greatly reduced recovery fees:

  • A successful recovery of a basic phone or data device with TMP only costs $20
  • Recovery of TMP protected smartphones or tablets costs a reduced rate of $50

This price reduction keeps the Redux recovery costs for protected devices to less than half the deductible claim, saving money and stress. The Redux drying process can also save customers time compared to a full insurance claim. Drying usually takes less than one hour to complete as opposed to the extended time and energy it may take to claim and receive a replacement device through insurance in the event of water damage.

Save Money and Enjoy Peace of Mind with a Redux Membership (Best Deal):

For customers seeking a more proactive approach, Redux at Wireless Zone® offers a discounted membership program for a one-time payment of $29.99.

Each membership includes:

  • Two free dry attempts with covered recovery costs
  • A money back guarantee on the member’s recovery outcome
  • 24 months of coverage
The low cost, savings, and provided peace of mind makes membership the most popular choice for Redux users.

Customer should note that the dry attempts can be claimed as soon as 15 days following initial sign-up. Membership is tied to the customer's Verizon mobile number (rather than device) so changing or upgrading phones will not affect the ability to claim free dry attempts.

To eliminate hidden fees, a Redux membership will not be automatically renewed once the 24-month span has ended – instead, customers will be asked upon their next upgrade or account change following the expiration if they’d like to renew the service to take advantage of the $29.99 membership price for renewed free dry attempts and recovery coverage (as well as the Redux money back guarantee) for an additional 24 months. The low cost, savings, and provided peace of mind makes membership the most popular choice for Redux users.
